Hungary, North Macedonia reach agreement on unrestricted travel for vaccinated people
An agreement between Hungary and North Macedonia on unrestricted travel for citizens on the other who have been vaccinated against the coronavirus will come into force on Friday, Foreign and Trade Minister Péter Szijjarto said during a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar. Hungary has agreements on mutual recognition of COVID-19 immunity certificates with Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Turkey and Bahrain. Romania is also honoring Hungarian immunity certificates and vice versa, while details of an agreement with the Czech Republic on unrestricted travel for those vaccinated are being worked out, according to a report from the channel. Szijjártó said Hungary was giving North Macedonia 6,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID vaccine to immunize the country’s 3,000 border guards.
Osmani acknowledged the aid, noting that Hungary also delivered masks to the country when supplies ran out last year.
He thanked Hungary for supporting the advancement of Euro-Atlantic integration of North Macedonia in international forums. North Macedonia hopes to start accession negotiations with the European Union this year, and the country continues to count on Budapest’s support in this matter, he added.
