Over a month later, it emerged Caroline had been murdered and suffocated in her sleep, and her husband had organized a robbery to cover up his crime, tying herself close to Caroline’s lifeless body with duct tape over her eyes. and mouth, after killing his wife and strangling the family’s pet dog, Roxy, with her own leash.
Anagnostopoulos is now awaiting trial after admitting to suffocating his wife.
In an exclusive interview with MailOnline, David said: “Several of our Greek friends were over there in a state of great distress. At first it was hard to understand what they were saying, but eventually we made sense of them. .
“It was as if an icy hand had grabbed my chest and grabbed my heart. From that point on, I was practically paralyzed.
“Susan took charge and arranged to travel immediately to Athens with one of the Greek ladies who had brought the news, while her brother stayed with me.
“It wasn’t until later in the day that I became composed. I remember this huge man with hands like spades, sitting in front of me with tears running down his face saying over and over again; “B ***** * s, b ****** s”.
“It was then that Caroline was believed to have been killed in a robbery.”
David told The Mail Online how grief had “overwhelmed” him and “sapped” and “drained” him of energy.

David told MOL: “I don’t want to speculate on the motive he had, it’s for the police to determine. I only want justice for my beautiful daughter who was killed in a most cowardly act.
“He knew he was no match for her physically. She was young, fit and an accomplished kickboxer, so he pulled the memory card out of the internal CCTV system and choked her while she slept.
“It’s times like this that you understand why people take justice into their own hands.
“I imagine he will have fun explaining to the killers with whom he will be imprisoned at Korydallos prison, considered the worst prison in Europe.”
Since the death of his daughter, David and Susan have been caring for their granddaughter, Lydia in Greece.
He added that they had a “good” relationship with the Anagnostopoulos family and allowed his mother to see Lydia whenever she wanted.
He said: “The comfort that Lydia’s presence in the house affords us is the only mitigating factor in this whole tragic affair.
“But, I am not a young man and we are all mortal. I have a deep concern that I will not be able to provide for Lydia in the years when she may need the most support. My only goal. at the moment is to give the best life to the child of my wonderful daughter.
“She’s clinging to Susan like a limpet, Susan’s sister will tolerate but howls like a banshee if I get too close to her.”
